Eating ( and Drinking ) Out
![]() Our 'local' is the Balloan Pub in Marybank, which changed hands in Autumn 2007 and has been refurbished. At the time of writing (December 2007) the bar has reopened and the kitchens are being upgraded and it is hoped that bar meals will be back on the menu by the 2008 season. Muir of Ord is very handy for food, only 2.5 miles away. It has a number of hotels and bars, some of which offer meals, and there is an Indian take away and a fish and chip shop, and a café selling teas and snacks during the day. The next village on from “the Muir” is Beauly which has an excellent fish and chip shop also selling pizzas, a Chinese take away and the Beauly Tandoori Indian restaurant and take-away. Traditional Scottish 'high teas' feature alongside standard dinners at the very popular Priory Hotel. The Lovat Arms gives a choice of bar meals or more formal restaurant meals and the Beauly Centre has an attractive restaurant for lunches or afternoon teas. If you want to go for a formal dinner locally, you might want to consider the Coul House Hotel in Contin, or if you are happy to go that bit further there are plenty of options in the County town of Dingwall. If you let us know the kind of thing you are looking for, we would be delighted to make some suggestions. |

If you'd prefer to stay in, you don't have to venture very far to stock up. Between the Muir and Druimorrin you will find a connoisseur's dram at the Glen Ord Distillery, seasonal produce at the Balvraid Fruit Farm and right on our doorstep, blue trout, fresh out of the water at the Glen Orrin Fish Farm. Across the river at Arcan, the dairy now produces its own ice-cream - guilt free too, since it's only a few minutes' walk away (if you want to burn off the extra calories!). |
